*p*h*f*r

pretty
My cute craft store birds. I've had them for a while but they've moved location.
It was so funny, at my wedding, my maid of honor mentioned in her toast how I liked to move things around the apartment (when we lived together in college) and that Mike would likely have to deal with this habit of mine. It's so true. I love moving stuff around; furniture, knick knacks, etc.
I guess for me I get bored easily and just like to see change. Keeps things fresh and new feeling!

Never mind my windows that need to be cleaned...

 I bought these alphabet cards years ago but I finally hung them up.

This post is not brought to you by the letter F though, since for some mysterious reason, we are missing that card.

Happy
This morning the girls slept in until 8! Michael had woken up at 6, pooped, but then let me nurse him back down. So I was very happy that I had some time to get dressed, put make-up on, and do a few other things before everyone needed me! Lately everyone has been waking up at the same time and had multiple demands shooting at me right away, so this morning was a welcomed breather.

I just got these Starbucks Via Refreshers at the store yesterday, only because they were on sale, and I actually kind of like them. I am not a huge Starbucks fan (not anymore anyway) but if these were on sale again I would probably buy some. They only have like 9 ingredients and use cane sugar, so that's good. Anyone else tried them?

funny
Michael man helping out. This kid is on the move and doesn't like it when anyone gets in his way! And yes, my two year old is helping unload the dishwasher for real. She loves putting the silverware for me.

I didn't get too much longer to myself after starting this blog post when middle sister child awoke.

Some catch up

 Two weekends ago, Louisa had her first soccer practice of the summer. Last summer, we got together with a bunch of our friend's and the dad's ran a little soccer practice for them throughout the summer (every other Saturday) It was so cute and fun last year, but honestly this year was so much better! They were just able to focus a lot more and really seemed to grasp that they were playing an actual sport! (Well, practicing anyway. We are still a little ways off from an actual game)

I played soccer from the time when I was about 8 to 18. I always had a ton of fun...mostly goofing off with my friends but, the competition also was fun and intense at times. We went to soccer tournaments every year and our coach, Gary, was great. I mean, we raised his blood pressure quite a bit (he was my coach for the majority of that time) but, I think he still loved us. It couldn't have been easy coaching 10-12 16 year old girls on the soccer field! Me especially. I truly was a goofball  : )

Louisa seems to have an athletic bent already. Maybe it's just because I'm her mama, but I could really see the beginnings of talent for the sport. Check out her high kick! (Which is technically a penalty if you kick too high in a game, but, it's okay for now :)

Sweet girl!

This weekend was fun. My hometown friends and I threw a baby shower for two of our friends who are having babies this summer! Here is a picture from about a year ago when Sarah, Kristina, and I had a baby shower thrown for us. Now, Aubri and Jess are preggers. It was so nice seeing them. Even though it was a bit hectic since I brought all the kids with me! Louisa had so much fun playing with another girl, Hannah, the whole time though so she was kept occupied.

I am just so thrilled for Jessie, who is having her first baby (a girl) and Aubri who is having her second (boy). Horray for new life!

Also this weekend, Mike and I worked on getting the yard prepped for the playset we bought at Costco. Mike worked hard getting the area leveled (I chipped in too. Enough so that my back is killing me this morning!) I also did some weeding and got some wild flowers planted that I've been meaning to do for weeks now. It was super rainy and yucky on Memorial Day, but that was ok. We got work done in between the showers.

We had to get baby outside to watch because he was very unhappy watching from inside! Don't worry, it was only drizzling at this point :)

This week I'll be getting stuff ready to sell at a garage sale we are having with another family next weekend. I can't wait to do some purging and perhaps make a little money! We need to pay for some woodchips for the playset so it works out perfectly! Alright, well I first better go ice my back, and then get to work finding stuff to sell.

Hope you have a lovely week, too!

Pretty morning light

Happy

It was my husband, and his twin brother's, birthday yesterday. Happy 28th to them! Almost to 30, wowsa! When I first met these guys we were all 21 and in college. 30 seemed like so far away, and now it's just around the corner.

Other "Happy":
-Sun is shining, for the moment
-My husband got a Kindle for his birthday. I'm looking forward to him reading a couple books I've wanted him to read so we can talk about them together!
-This weekend is a three day weekend!
-Also this weekend I'm helping to throw a baby shower for two of my best friends. One is having her first and one is having her second. I can't wait to see my old friends and shower them with love!
-I am extremely happy and PROUD of my mom, who got into a not-so-easy-to-get-into baking class. When she's finished she should have a commercial baking license and should be able to get a fun job! She starts it up next month. She is going to look so cute in her chef's outfit :)
-Laundry is all caught up
-House is nice and tidy
-God is good. He has answered a little prayer of mine and given me some peace.

Because my lovely sister Katelyn was able to babysit the girls last minute, I got to drive into the city to have lunch with the birthday boy yesterday (I can do it with all three kiddos, but it's a little much. It's just not that relaxing.) We had a good time. As you can see, Michael loves his daddy sooooooooo much.

 Real

"Tessa is the only dog for me" - a quote from my mother in law this week. I totally agree with her. I am not a dog person. My in-laws aren't really either. But two years ago when I told them I had gotten a puppy but was in way over my head with two toddlers, they said they would keep her for us. I'm so glad they did! Tess is a sweet and funny dog, and one of the only dogs I've ever liked. For reals.

Now, I'm just trying to convince them to get another King Charles Spaniel to keep her company :)

My Creativity post didn't gather much discussion, like I hoped it would. If you have anything to say, I'd love to hear your thoughts! I felt bad, but when I wrote it, the kids had kind of a "your on your own" morning. Then, later, I felt bad so I took them out to PCC for a cupcake. Louisa, 4, was especially sweet and said she forgave me for not playing with her that morning. It was really cute.

Creativity

By "creating" alongside our Creator, we share in His creation, right?

Well, that's a mouthful. But it's true, right? The reason this topic came to mind was actually because I am feeling incredibly frustrated this morning. There are two or three projects I'd really like to work on and my creative juices are flowing. I just want to make something. But alas, I've been blocked one way or another from getting to them. (Partial blame goes to Microsoft word, partial blame to fussy babies and loud two year olds who wake up fussy babies just when they were falling asleep!) As you can see, I've decided to carve out time for writing a post. I just want to do something other than laundry and wiping tushes today, ya know?!!

Blogging is a way of creating, right? Right.

Okay, so here are just a few thoughts I have on being co-sharers in creation. The most obvious and fundamental way we contribute is through procreation. Did you know that the very first commandment we are given in the bible is.....to procreate! Genesis 1:28 (First book, first chapter, even!): "And God Blessed them, and God said unto them, be fruitful and multiply and replenish the earth and subdue it

So there you go. It's important for Christians to acknowledge this. I think the God-given desire to contribute to the next generation is key to understanding who we are as creative beings. Social pressures at various points in history will either favor this commandment or reject it. Right now we are definitely in a time where men and women starting families and having babies is put at the bottom of the list of "important things to do." For women, especially, the pressure to have a career is ridiculous.

You might argue that having a career and working on something bigger than yourselves is a form of creation. I would agree with you for the most part. I believe that any kind of contribution that a person makes to the betterment of this world is important and can be tied back to the urge to be creative. Especially if you are working on bringing something into existence that did not exist before. Even my husband, who is a computer programmer, gets to share in an important form of creativity. He writes code and brings new programs into existence. How cool is that? And so essential to the times we are living in where everything is computerized. So, off he goes every morning to be creative. Lucky him! (I think he'll tell you to wait one minute - sometimes it's not quite that glamorous!)

You can see the pull of being creative early on in childhood. Children LOVE to create things!!
You might also argue that someone should hardly be faulted if they are not able to be procreative. Of course not! My goodness. Whenever I've seen this heartbreaking scenario play out, with my friends and family members, it is devastating. To the point where it's a total grieving process once it is discovered that something is not right with one's fertility. I hope that no one is silly enough to believe that I fault anyone for something biologically out of their control. I would hope that this intense sense of loss only emphasizes the importance of procreation in the first place! That it is not something to be taken for granted or to suppress. As for their "contribution" to the world, often times those I know who have gone through the pain of infertility are the most beautifully creative people I know. They find a way to share in God's "bringing into being," however and whenever they can. These souls are inspirations to me to not only appreciate my own fertility, but to also continue to make the most of my time and talent when it comes to other ways of being creative. Creativity is not limited to baby-making.

In fact, I tend to get frustrated, like I am this morning, when I go a long time without doing something other than caring for babies, that seems important. It may sound silly, but being crafty is important to me. The mundane, repetitive task of caring for the little creatures of this house gets....well, tedious! Yes, really there is nothing more important than nurturing them. Their being in my life is a gift. I am charged with the primary role in forming them, educating them, turning their eyes toward God, their creator. I take this very seriously. At the same time, the creative urge does include feeling inclined to do other things, besides nursing babies and cleaning up messes. Sometimes a good craft or a batch of jam helps satisfy it. Sometimes it's just writing a blog post that helps. Sometimes photography. Whatever it may be - creativity is a life line. Creativity is life.

Our generous Creator, God the Father, gave us the glorious task of being co-creators with Him. What a task! What an honor! What a gift. We should pursue creativity with a sense of wonder, delight, and joy.
What about you? What are some of the ways you are creative in your life? Do you feel frustrated  like me, if you go too long without creating something beautiful?

5 years

Happy Anniversary to my smart, thoughtful, kind, handsome, baby-whispering husband. I love you more today than I did on our wedding day (which, I did not think was possible, but what did I know about marriage then, anyway? :)

Pretty (happy funny real) Thursday morning!

{Pretty}

 Josie is a morning person. And no matter how messy and disheveled her hair looks, she always looks so beautiful in the morning. And even with her too short bangs that I cut yesterday, I am struck at how naturally stunning she is. Daddy assured me that her haircut wasn't that bad, so that made me feel a little better.

Pansies at my in-laws house

{Happy}

Josie just enjoying some morning breaky. My kids love plain cheerioes with honey. It's their favorite food ever and they often ask for it as a bed time snack. They never get tired of it.

{Funny}
baby Michael tried his first popcicle last weekend. He thought it was pretty good, though I felt bad because I thought this was coconut but it was actually lime so it was actually quite sour! He still enjoyed it, I think :)

 Watching his sisters play

 Then, it was time to go play in the dirt. Naturally.

{Real}

Oh, there is so much "real" going on right now in this moment, I can't even tell you. Rather, I can't even show you. Okay, so I just don't want to. My kids are kind of falling apart since they went to bed late last night, my kitchen is a royal mess, the baby is sticky from breakfast, and all three of the kids really need a bath. See, last night we had friends over for dinner and it was such a blast. So worth this morning's aftermath :) But, I should get going and pay the little uns some attention. Bath time for them, then a show so I can shower and get started on those dishes....

Cheers to a happy rest of your week! Tomorrow, my husband and I will celebrate 5 years married!

Beads and a bad haircut

For the last few months, and increasingly in the last two weeks, miss Louisa and miss Josephine have been bickering nearly constantly. They are doing it as I type this. I'm nearing the conclusion that they like to make the other one scream. I seriously think they enjoy it. As for me, I sometimes want to pull my hair out at the peak of their screaming matches!

Today I had to separate them completely because they could not play nicely together. Lou downstairs, Josie upstairs. This lasted for like 7 minutes, because, like I said, even though they fight, they want and need to be around each other. I keep telling myself that siblings learn this way. Not that it's okay to be mean or anything, but I don't feel it would be good for me to interfere each and every time they bicker over something. They have to learn problem solving and cooperation, and what better way than with your sister? I like that they are 22 months apart because they are close enough to be friends....one day....hopefully.....crossing my fingers....I don't know, what do you think? Should they get in trouble every time they make the other one scream?

Do you see how short I cut Josie's bangs this morning? I also cut about an inch off her hair.
Her hair is so cute, but it was getting too scraggly and tangled. I may have to take her somewhere to get a little bob cut, because it looks kind of terrible.

Nice that I gave her a bad haircut just in time for wedding season, huh?

So after a few hours of alternating fighting and playing, I had to get them some organized activities going. Beading is something that we found out Louisa loves to do. Josie caught on right away too. They both concentrate really well, so from time to time I like to get the beads out. Michael was napping on my back.

Louisa wanted to make a bracelet for her papa.

Well, after all that talk about the girls causing me to lose my hearing, I've got a fussy baby wanting to climb into my lap and probably nurse. His gums are bothering him and he's got a cold. Poor little man.

Time to bounce!
(hahaha; I used to say that in high school all the time. I was so cool.)
